Network for a Healthy California—Central Coast Retail Program Hosts Free Event to Help Families Bridge the Nutritional Gap and Choose Healthy Snacks

 

Join the Network for a Healthy California—Central Coast Retail Program, La Princesa Market and Alisal Community Healthy Start Family Resource Center for Fruit and Veggie Fest on Sunday,

May 1, 2011 from 11:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. at La Princesa Market in Salinas. The annual event is part of a statewide effort to empower families to make healthy, active living a priority. It is one of several Fruit and Veggie Fest celebrations happening throughout California during the month of May.

 

Free to the public, Fruit and Veggie Fest in Salinas will offer a variety of fun and educational activities to help shoppers learn how to get the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables by snacking smart to improve their health and the health of their families. Activities will include:

 

  • Simón Salinas, Monterey County Supervisor
  • Dennis Donohue, Mayor of Salinas
  • Celebrity Chef Healthy Recipe Throw Down between Major Dennis Donohue and Champion Mom Rosa Jacinto from Salinas.
  • Champion Mom, Rosa Jacinto from Salinas sharing tips and ideas to help shoppers take small steps to improve their families’ health.   She will prepare nutritious snacks featuring in-season fruits and vegetables and will be offering healthy tips to community members

Network Smoothie Cycle, shoppers can create a healthy, refreshing fruit-themed drink.
