Call for Nominations to Honor Exellence in Public-Private Partnerships

ASIS International Honors Excellence in Public-Private Partnerships

With New Award at ASIS 2011

Alexandria, Va.  (Mar. 1, 2011) – The ASIS International (ASIS) Law Enforcement Liaison Council (LELC) has established the Matthew Simeone ASIS Award for Public-Private Partnership Excellence. Administered by the ASIS Foundation, the award recognizes outstanding achievement by a private organization and a law enforcement agency in the advocacy, development, implementation, and practice of public-private cooperation for public safety. The application deadline for the first award, which will be presented at an ASIS 2011 luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 in Orlando, Fl., is May 20, 2011. Two winners—one representative from the private organization and one representative from the law enforcement agency—will receive free transportation and hotel expenses.

Matthew Simeone was a distinguished 24-year member of the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) in New York.  Prior to his untimely death in 2009, he was the Commanding Officer of the Police Commissioner's Community Affairs Unit and a highly respected private sector liaison.

An active LELC member, Simeone spearheaded the NCPD Security/Police Information Network (SPIN) by working closely with ASIS business and security leaders, the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), the ASIS Long Island Chapter, NCPD, NYPD, and Suffolk County Police.  SPIN, a two-way email communications P3 network, brings together the public sector (law enforcement and non-law enforcement governmental agencies) and the private sector (pre-vetted private security directors and non-vetted community-based organizations).

A committee consisting of the ASIS LELC, an ASIS executive staff leader, and a representative from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Private Sector Liaison Committee (PSLC) will select the winners.
