Citizen Corps Monterey County

Promoting Disaster Preparedness & Resiliency

Hello,

We are located on Garden Road quite close to the airport.  Last weeks busy airshow and commercial flight activity reminded me of the possibility of an accident.

Do you know any good emergency training workshops that could assist in our preparation as a group in a small office (20) that might drive off in every direction to get home in an emergency situation.  We have had CPR with Red Cross 2years ago, but I wonder about other topics?

any advise appreciated,

Julie Conrad

Hi Julie,

There are many members who can provide you emergency training.  The SPCA does a great job on preparedness for animals.  Our Central Coast  or Monterey CERT can talk about the 20 hour training provided to citizens on preparedness.  The Red Cross is always good.  The United Way can talk about the 211 program.  The Sheriffs Department can speak to your group on Neighborhood Watch programs.  Our county OES can talk about a myriad of preparedness efforts happening county wide.  I can come and provide information on basic preparedness, how to build an emergency preparedness kit, make a family/office plan and opportunities to volunteer.  Let me know about what you would like and when- I am sure we can help!  Thanks for thinking about Citizen Corps!

Best,

Wendy

Thanks Wendy,

Of course I am a bit late, is there a chance you could come and do your "basic preparedness, opportunities to volunteer and train", talk next Monday Oct.1 at 10:30 am?  That is our next staff meeting.  Otherwise I can reschedule a time farther in advance.

thanks,

Julie

Hi Julie,

Sure- I will make that work- How long do  you have for me to share information?  I think I remember where you are located, but send me the address so I don't get it wrong.  Do you have a projector to hook my laptop up- a little powerpoint will help me keep on track:)  Looking forward to seeing you all!

Best,

Wendy

Thanks Wendy,

Let me confirm with our CEO in my meeting tomorrow at 9:00 am. Can you do something basic in 30 minutes?  He is interested in more of a big picture view, but that might be another time.

Thanks for your quick response!  I will get back with you by noon Tuesday the 25th to confirm.

Hello Julie, My name is Wayne O'Neil I am a Program Manager and Instructor with Central Coast Cert Association and we would like to offer you and your organization training in disaster preparedness. These could be Lunch Hour Brown Bag sessions or tailored to your needs. We would also be willing to train your Organization in the 20 hour fFema certified Commmunty Emergency Response Team Training. If you are interested please feel free to call me at 831-277-1630.

Wendy and Wayne,

We are not going to have a training on Monday 10/1, but do want to schedule a more serious training at a staff meeting in the near future.

Part of the goal of the Community Foundation is to be able to help ourselves and help others. I will call Wayne to get the details about the Fema certification and like the idea of the brown bag lunches that could include some of our neighbors as well.

Thank you for your information I look forward to setting up some training.
